Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Blu Dot used Roku Ads Manager to drive incredible results for its furniture sales event. Its strategy hinged on custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

“Roku has been a top performer,” said Blu Dot’s Claire Folkestad. “We have seen…CPMs lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

💰 The FTC could sue you over personalized pricing LINK
  • The FTC warned that businesses which set prices using shoppers' personal data without telling them could be breaking the law, publishing an enforcement bulletin on the practice Wednesday and asking for public comment.
  • Chairman Andrew Ferguson said the agency cannot ban personalized pricing outright, but retailers who imply a listed price is static when it actually changes per shopper may be violating the FTC Act against deceptive practices.
  • States are acting too, with more than 50 bills introduced across 26 states as of May, and New Jersey passing a law last month that forbids charging different shoppers different prices for identical products.
🎬 YouTube is paying creators millions to snub Netflix LINK
  • YouTube is offering its biggest creators multi-million-dollar packages to keep their shows off Netflix, according to Bloomberg, with several deals reportedly close but none signed yet by either side.
  • The offers take three forms: direct funding for a creator's shows, a share of platform-wide brand deals YouTube negotiates with advertisers, and upfront cash, in exchange for windows where the work stays on YouTube alone.
  • Creators who take Netflix money alongside a YouTube deal reportedly risk losing YouTube's marketing pushes, its major events, and a cut of brand campaigns, though YouTube is said to want a period of exclusivity rather than full exclusivity.
🏷️ AI ad labels could cut your click-through 31.5% LINK
  • The IAB's new AI Transparency and Disclosure Framework cites an NYU Stern finding that telling consumers an advertisement involved generative AI dropped its click-through rate by 31.5 percent, which the group uses to argue against blanket labeling.
  • Published August 18, 2026, the voluntary framework applies one test: whether the AI use creates a material risk of misleading a reasonable consumer about what is authentic, factual, or human-created, rather than counting how many AI tools sit in the production chain.
  • Disclosure is required for images and video generated from AI prompts, synthetic voices of deceased or living people in fabricated situations, digital twins, and photorealistic AI influencers, but not for color correction, background cleanup, stylized imagery, or text and copy.
🖥️ Meta AI's new Mac app can now optimize your ad campaigns LINK
  • Meta has launched a new Mac app that lets influencers and small businesses use its AI tools to sharpen how they promote products, run advertising campaigns, and manage day-to-day operations.
  • The app gives one place to connect to Meta's AI tools, showing businesses and creators what content is working on Instagram and Facebook, and it can now link to Google Workspace accounts for email, calendars, and documents.
  • Under Meta's privacy policy, any data shared, including from business Google accounts, can be used to train future AI systems and to target ads, though the app offers an Incognito Mode that processes chats in a space Meta can't see.
🔍 Microsoft Ads brings AI Max to your Search campaigns LINK
  • Microsoft Advertising has started rolling out AI Max globally, adding a set of AI-powered targeting, creative and landing page features to Search campaigns while keeping the suite opt-in for both new and existing campaigns.
  • AI Max includes three core features: Search term matching, which finds relevant queries beyond an advertiser's keyword list; Text customization, which generates messaging variations from existing assets; and Final URL expansion, which picks landing pages that match user intent.
  • The suite launches with brand controls, term exclusions, reporting, URL rules and ad group settings, and AI Max settings carry across when advertisers import eligible Search campaigns from Google Ads, though imported DSA-based campaigns convert back to DSA.

Strategies & Tactics

> SEO forecasting: How to predict your traffic in an AI Era: Build SEO forecasts as probability ranges tracking AI citations and branded search, because AI Overviews now absorb clicks that old traffic-based models overstate.
> New ways to expand reach and engagement on instagram: Explains how to expand Instagram reach without making new content by adding music to carousels for Reels feed distribution and swapping audio on published posts.
> JavaScript links can make your pages invisible to AI search: A controlled test shows most AI crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot ignore JavaScript-injected links entirely, so hard-code links in HTML to stay findable.
> Marketing contribution is the new attribution: Measure whether marketing content shows up and gets used across the full buying journey instead of crediting single clicks, since privacy rules and AI assistants have broken traditional attribution tracking.
> 7 Website marketing strategies for 2026: Reach buyers where they research before ever visiting your site, AI tools, video, and Google's feed, so they arrive already trusting your brand and ready to convert.
> How social platforms measure video views: Each platform counts a video view differently, so marketers should learn each definition before treating view counts as proof of engagement or paying creators for them.
