🎧 Spotify's new skip button could gut your podcast ads LINK
  • Spotify has added a new skip button that lets some users jump past podcast ads, promotions, and filler, as long as those ads aren't sold directly by Spotify, worrying much of the podcast industry.
  • The button cements a two-tiered ad system where marketing bought through Spotify can't be skipped while publishers' own ads can, threatening the money made by shows that rely on direct-sold ads.
  • Spotify says the rollout is limited, appearing only when the app is in the foreground and only for some paid subscribers, and told publishers the skip button is still in an early testing phase across its 777 million monthly active users.
👟 How Foot Locker is rebuilding sneaker-culture loyalty LINK
  • Foot Locker launched a brand platform called "It Always Will Be Foot Locker" on Friday, framing itself as a home for sneaker culture since 1974 rather than a plain retail chain.
  • A two-minute hero film runs across broadcast, social, digital, out-of-home, and in-store, mixing archival footage with new scenes, keeping Striper employees on screen and using Method Man's voiceover as the emotional thesis.
  • The platform continues with "Sole Stories," a 36-episode short-form documentary series made with Kevin Hart's company Hartbeat, rolling out through fall across social, digital, influencer, and in-store channels.
🛒 OpenAI is coming for your small-business ad dollars LINK
  • OpenAI is building a dedicated unit to sell ads to small and mid-sized businesses, according to six live job postings reviewed by Digiday that span growth, data science, demand strategy and sales operations.
  • The top role, a "Lead Data Scientist for SMB Ads Growth" in San Francisco, pays $293K to $515K to build the analytics function from scratch, covering targeting, funnel optimization and forecasting, seeking candidates from Meta, Google or LinkedIn.
  • OpenAI plans to pay outside vendors to handle SMB sales rather than build a large in-house team, hiring a Senior Vendor Manager in Dublin to run performance reviews and put underperforming vendors on corrective action plans, matching Google and Meta's model.
📌 LinkedIn just tweaked your feed to boost comments LINK
  • LinkedIn has changed how it ranks comments in the feed, showing each user the replies most relevant to them in an effort to spark more conversations inside the app.
  • The platform draws on signals like professional interests, connections and engagement activity to surface personally relevant comments, and will also show more timely and relevant discussions in the main feed to invite participation.
  • The shift follows a Q2 report showing an 18% year-over-year rise in time spent in post comments, though Pangram Labs found 30% of comments between April and June were entirely AI-generated.
💬 Reddit and forums now out-cite reviews in AI answers LINK
  • An analysis of 35,000 ChatGPT citations found that user-generated content platforms like Reddit, Wikipedia, and forums are cited more often than review sites and publishers combined for SaaS-related prompts.
  • Stripping out vendor domains, UGC platforms hold 17.1% of cited domains overall, more than 4 times the 4.0% share held by publishers, yet they get the least deliberate marketing investment.
  • Wikipedia, Reddit, and LinkedIn make up 99% of UGC citations in the sample, with Wikipedia alone running 10.1 to 14.0 points of the 17-point floor across the buyer journey.

Strategies & Tactics

> 5 AI blind spots that cost you conversions: Master the behavioral psychology behind buying decisions, since AI produces clear, competent copy but can't grasp why people hesitate, trust, or buy.
> SEO guide for SaaS companies: Map content to each stage of the buyer journey and optimize for AI chatbot citations, since 51% of software buyers now start research there rather than Google.
> How business context changes AI recommendations: Feeding AI the business context a strategist gathers first-goals, budget, priorities-matters far more than clever prompt wording for getting useful recommendations.
> Exclusion-Only Custom Audiences: Meta now lets advertisers mark a customer list as exclusion-only, permanently barring it from targeting or lookalikes so groups like unsubscribers stay excluded.
> Why Georgia-Pacific bet the future of programmatic on supply, not demand: Georgia-Pacific screens ad inventory before bidding rather than after, cutting costs up to 44% and lifting ad viewability by buying from fewer suppliers.
> What GenAI visibility tactics miss: Single AI-visibility tricks fail; brands need consistent, specific descriptions repeated across the many sources that large language models cite before ranking.
